HISTORY of the ROBERT TOOMBS CHAPTER # 176 MOS&B

The Robert Toombs Chapter was chartered in Athens Georgia the 29th of January 1992 at a Dinner Ceremony held at Trumps.The first Commander was Toombs DuBose Lewis, Jr., Great Great Grandson of Robert Toombs. Robert N. Hale, Sr. Adjutant. There was a total of 23 Charter Members. Of those eight are still active members. Several members have passed over the river to rest in the eternal life promised by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Our roster as of March 23, 2008, with three applications in progress, consist of 16 members. For many years we met quarterly at various location. Over the years since chartered, many members have attended the ceremony of the birth of Alexander Stephens in Crawfordville. Most chapter members are also members of the Brig. Gen. T.R.R. Cobb Camp # 97 SCV which meets monthly. As joint members of the MOS&B and SCV chapter members are involved in many projects including the marking of Confederate Graves of the 427 Veterans buried at Oconee Hill Cemetery on Confederate Memorial Day and the Memorial Service held there on Confederate Memorial Day at the Brig. Gen. T.R.R. Cobb burial site. Over 100 officers of the Confederacy are buried in Oconee Hill Cemetery including 2 Brig. Generals and 2 Major Generals.
